GOLFING

ome of the best golf courses in the entire state of Georgia are found right here in the North Georgia mountains. While you may not have as many courses to choose from as you'd like, some of the most challenging golf courses around can be found right here in Towns County and our Lake Chatuge sibling, North Carolina's Clay County.

Brasstown Valley Resort has been ranked by both Golf Digest and Leading Golf Courses of America as one of the top courses to play in Georgia. A Denis Griffiths-designed course, a professional driving and practice range, and an on-site PGA, Pro Brett Beazley. Making the most of the stunning mountain and valley terrain, the par-72 course begins and ends at The Lodge. For more information visit www.brasstownvalley.com

In the summer, with a few hours of daylight remaining, the first tee at Chatuge Shores Golf Course becomes a popular spot. Opened in 1969, and designed by John V. Townsend, Chatuge Shores is routed on the side of a shallow valley next to Lake Chatuge in western North Carolina.  Townsend clearly built the course with the goal of maximizing playability and enjoyment. Chatuge Shores Golf Course amenities include a practice range, practice green, snack bar, rental clubs and pro shop. Lessons available by appointment. For more information call (828) 389-8940.
