our “mountain experience” is not complete unless you’ve spread a blanket in the woods for a picnic, perhaps even sharing a morsel or two with a forest critter. Of course, there are many picnic tables to enjoy as well along the shores of beautiful Lake Chatuge. Take in the fresh mountain air as well as the beauty that surrounds you by lunching outside, or end your day with a sunset picnic dinner at one of Towns County’s scenic spots—an evening to remember for sure.
Among the many spots for a picnic is on the shores of Lake Chatuge at the Georgia Mountain Campgrounds. While there is a charge for their covered pavilions, there are several uncovered tables on the shoreline that are available for public use. A very nice playground is also nearby.
Or try the picnic area just west of Hwy 288 behind the Park & Ride. This is a nicely shaded area and on the Lake.
The Public Beach across from the entrance to Georgia Mountain Fair is a most scenic spot with several picnic tables under the trees.
In Young Harris, Mayor’s Park is a beautiful picnic area, including a gazebo and playground. Or, down behind Young Harris College you will find Cupid’s Falls, a small but pretty waterfall with picnic tables on the creek bank.
